Birds of Malaysia

Birds of prey

Among the commonly seen are the White bellied sea eagle, Brahminy kite, Changeable Hawk eagle, Jerdon Baza, Crested Serpent eagle, Crested goshawk and the Japanese sparrow hawk. The former 3 even nest at the area and the nesting months are between the months of November and April.

Brahminy Kite

This is the most common bird of prey found in langkawi, and some say this is the bird that has come to symbolize the island even to the extent that the island gets it name after this bird. We doubt this but it makes a nice story. This bird feed over the water as well as on land, preferring to take the offal’s on the water’s surface and now even road kills.
