MODULE 2: Communities and Service Learning
Location: Sail to local fishing village and live among them. Students will get to interact with the islanders and will gain valuable insights into their culture and lifestyle. Along with learning valuable traditional skills like cast net fishing, rice planting, music, boat making and other traditional craft. They will brainstorm with the villages and volunteer their services with a community project. Service-learning is a teaching method that enriches learning by engaging students in meaningful service to their communities.
Young people apply academic skills to solving real-world issues, linking established learning objectives with genuine needs. They lead the process, with adults as partners, applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills to concerns such as hunger, pollution, and diversity. They may collect river water samples in and around the village area, tabulate their results, present it to the community and local authorities and together with the community undertake to clean the environment.
