Introduction to Langkawi
Geography
Langkawi situated just off the Northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia comprises a group of 104 tropical islands during low tides and 99 Island during high tide. The main island Langkawi is 47,848 hectare in size while Pulau Dayang Bunting and Pulau Tuba are somewhat smaller while the others appear to be mere dots in the emerald green ocean when viewed from the air.
On 1st June 2007 Langkawi was declared as the world's 52nd Geopark and the first in Southeast Asia, by UNESCO Global Network of Geoparks. Langkawi geological history dates back over 500 million years. The islands contains unique rock formations, numerous caves with their stunning stalactites and stalagmites taunt the adventurous while unraveling their ancient secrets.
For those who love a tropical island holiday and a place far from the maddening crowd will find their haven in Langkawi. The outstanding natural landscapes of Langkawi Islands proclaim them as a true tropical paradise. Langkawi rainforest is rich with varieties of flora that lends itself to medicinal cures, fragrances, lotions and pigments while flowers, fruits, sap, bark, leaves and roots are utilized by locals for their traditional medicinal properties.

Situated at latitudes 6°10°N to 6°30°N and longitudes 99°35°E to 100°E, Langkawi has a tropical monsoon climate with a high annual temperature of between 24°C to 33°C.
There are 2 distinct seasons. The dry season, November to March, when the winds blow predominately from the NE. The weather is generally fine with nice cool sailing breeze but tends to be much dryer than other parts of Malaysia. Temperature on the whole averages around 32°.

Hi Irshad! I was really astonished by reading this article about your work at Langkawi-in our last local sunday newspaper in Germany -where I'm staying with my family for the past 29years. Next time when we're on holidays in Malaysia we make sure to meet you in Langkawi. Hope you still remember that Temiang-fellow hanging around with you and your brothers. Best regards from Pang
