Join This Tour Mangrove River Cruise and Swimming Tour  conducted at kubang badak river. This mangroves Forest is home to a unique group of plants. Adapted to live in an environment of constant and dynamic change. Dictated by the rise and fall of the tides, the Mangroves are a wonderful study on survival and adaptation. Our guide will take us on board to explore the Kubang Badak river. We may have chances to observe the White-bellied Sea Eagles, Brahminy Kites, Kingfishers, Herons, Mudskippers, Fiddler Crabs and Monitor Lizards and if we are lucky the resident otter family. We will then join a local family for a delightful home cooked lunch. Next we head to a nearby jungle trail for a short 450m trek leads to a quite jungle pool for a refreshing swim before returning to the resort.

Kayaking & Swimming Adventure

Join This Tour For the more energetic among us, we can head to Kubang Badak River for some Kayaking and swimming adventure. Depending on the tidal conditions, we will either begin at the coast and end up river or begin upriver and end down at the coast. Our journey takes us on a kayaking adventure to experience the mysteries of the Kubang Badak mangrove forest reserve, and its network of meandering river passages. We will observe many exotic plants and animal species, that have adapted ingenious ways to thrive in a habitat dictated by the ebb and flow of the ocean tides. We will get to see sea eagles and kites, kingfishers, herons, mudskippers, fiddler crabs and monitor lizards, then pass the local fishing station where the local fishermen gather to go to sea or return after a day out. After about an hour and a half of this truly informative kayaking adventure, we travel nearby for some locally prepared lunch and refreshments. Then we drive a short distance by van, to a nearby jungle trail that leads us to a secluded pool. It clear, cool and refreshing waters are a refreshing respite from the heat of the midday sun. A while later we make the return journey back to your hotel.

Join This Tour Langkawi is home to approximately 267 species of birds, of which about one third are migrants. These migrants winter here between the months of September and April. This tour is suitable for both the serious birder and the birding enthusiast. The most suitable time to observe birds at the equator is either early morning or early evening when they are most active. This half day tour is spread over two sessions. You can either do them both or the one you most prefer.

Morning Session : Time: 7.30am - 11.30am

The open corridor between the rainforest is best for observing rainforest birds. Among the birds we may see are Flower Peckers, Hill Mynas, Dollarbirds, Green Pigeons, Drongos, Tailorbirds, Babblers, Bulbuls, Sunbirds, Eagles, Woodpeckers and Oriental-pied Hornbills. Our next destination takes us to a mangrove forest to search out the Brown-winged Kingfisher, Collared Kingfisher, Black-capped Kingfisher, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Brahminy Kite, Common Sandpiper and Little Heron. Finally we make our way to the rice paddies in search of the paddy field birds. We may get to see Sandpipers, Plovers, Lapwings, Pond Herons, Egrets, Bitterns, White-throated Kingfishers, Blue-throated Bee-eaters, Chestnut-headed Bee-eaters, Blue-tailed Bee-eaters, Peaceful Doves, Spotted Doves and Plain-backed Sparrows. You will return to your hotel before noon.

We begin this session with a short drive to a local village pond that is frequented by Lesser Whistling-Ducks, Little Egrets, Little Herons, Moorhens, Little Grebes, Pond Herons, Needle-tailed Swifts and Striated Swallows. We then drive to the highest peak in Langkawi to see Great Hornbills, Wreathed Hornbills and other rainforest species. These amazing birds will be the highlight of the trip. The Great Hornbills measuring 1.3meters (4 feet) from tip of beak to tip of tail, are the largest birds in Langkawi.

Join This Tour Langkawi has a rich diversity of ecosystems and habitat types. This includes lowland broadleaf rainforest, mangrove forest, reed beds, rice paddies, orchards, scrublands and mudflats. This therefore ensures a correspondingly rich diversity in birdlife on the island. This tour is suitable for serious birders between September to April only. There are 3 species of Hornbills including the Great Hornbill, 8 species of Kingfishers including the Brown-winged Kingfisher, 20 species of birds of prey including the Mountain Hawk Eagle, 6 species of owls including the Brown Hawk Owl, 4 species of woodpeckers including The Great Slaty Woodpecker, 4 species of munias including the White-headed Munia, 5 species of sunbirds including the Crimson Sunbird along with many species of rails, crakes, plovers, egrets, herons, snipes and sandpipers.

Day 1 - Session 1: Pick up time: 7.30am

Itinerary: Rainforest Birds and Mangrove Forest Birds

Depending on the tide, we might start at the mudflat area where we get to see Pacific Golden Plovers, Sand Martins, Sand Pipers and Artic Warblers. We then continue on to scrubland rainforest in search of Black-hooded Orioles and continue on to plantations in the hope of seeing Chestnut-breasted Malkohas and Blue-wing Pittas. Return to hotel at 11.30am

Day 2 - Session 2: Pick up time: 3.30pm

Itinerary: Paddyfield Birds

We make our way to the paddyfields in search of birds associated with this habitat. We may get to see Sandpipers, Plovers, Lapwings, Pond Herons, Egrets, Bitterns, White-throated Kingfishers, Peaceful Doves, Spotted Doves and Plain-backed Sparrows. Also any other target birds that we have not seen yet. Return to hotel at 7.30pm
